Honoring Morrisseau - MOTHER and CHILD
After a rough time in my life, I vowed that when I was able to paint again, I would dedicate my work to my Grandmother and all Native women who were involuntarily assimilated by mainstream culture, I turned my mind and heart toward learning how to express myself in ways that would be understood by my Ancestors, and I began to learn from other Metis, Native American, and First Nation examples and Artists. Norval Morrisseau is a prime example of a woodland artist, and I often return to his work for renewal of my commitment, and I do pieces to honor his contributions.
